Retail positive over Spring
Easter boosted sales figures for April 2014, up 4.2% on April 2013 where there had been a 2.2% decrease from the previous year. Non-food, Children’s fashion and Furniture and Flooring were amongst the best performing categories.
This puts the average sales growth over the last 12 months up to 2.8%.
According to David McCorquodale, head of retail at KPMG, it is clear that the economic recovery is now affecting the retail sector and factors such as mild weather this year have helped clothing and footwear sales.
